Why did we create an XR assistant for Salsa XR?
When we work with a new environment such as Extended reality, we can’t just copy regular computer interfaces and place flat floating windows and text hints around the space. It’s a new medium and it requires development of new UI patterns that will be more immersive and convenient.
The interface we created for Salsa XR has no small fonts or buttons. It’s persona-based: you have an anthropomorphic assistant who facilitates your navigation in mixed reality. Their other “job” is to teach you the basic steps of salsa, but first, you encounter them when they show you around the app in full detail.
Our teachers have human-like features: lip sync, body language, and natural body movement. They explain how to use the app, so it feels like you're getting face-to-face instructions from a real person.
