Radiant Commons is a non-stock corporation focused on technologies that empower users to make informed decisions on how their information is used. The company invited us to collaborate on their new project, Points.
Client
Challenge
Our job was to develop and design a website to host Points and motivate the users to engage with Points. This project is a part of a marketing campaign. The creative idea behind it is based on the idea of joint contribution. Points have no point or value, but they are a map of collaborative impact; users see them only while they’re interacting with them.
Solution
While developing the web design, we drew inspiration from Penumbra’s logo.
Radiant Common’s team suggested the clicker mechanics; we created its visualization. Here lies the metaphor: as users interact with the website and click for more Points, they witness their contribution to the project and see how it compares to the other users’.
It was important to highlight Penumbra's approach to privacy.
It isn’t just a buzzword; the website does not collect your information: you see only the points you accumulated and the total amount of points saved across all user sessions.
Today you can easily “hack” the clicker mechanics. While we were developing the site, we ensured it was fraud proof. The web code prevents the ‘overheat’ of the button, and visitors have to take a break from clicking.
We also developed an API that synchronizes the saved points with the tracking of user sessions from which they were created. The API is designed to handle the explosive marketing impact of the project and was built from the ground up with the ability to manage sharp, high-volume traffic surges.
