Not long ago, we worked on a very exciting project – a design concept of a promotional website for the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow.
Our main challenge was to introduce the new type of museum to the audience and to demonstrate that behind the new building lies the new essence of the museum – The New Polytech. And we did that by providing users with an opportunity to satisfy their curiosity, to interact with the information, and to experience the New Polytech step by step.
This project has won Bronze for the Best site about art, culture, and entertainment and another Bronze for the Best site for a government organisation at the Tagline Awards 2019.
About the project
The main purpose of the website was to introduce the new type of museum to the audience, to demonstrate that behind the new building lies the new essence of the museum. The New Polytech is not only about interesting exhibitions and educational programs, but it is also an important landmark on the city map.
Challenge and solution
The best way to demonstrate the essence of the New Polytech is by providing users with an opportunity to satisfy their curiosity. We proposed to deliver the content in a way that the users will be interested in interacting with the information, where they will experience the New Polytech step by step.
It is based on the question that we ask the user at every step: “What will happen if… ?” And everyone can find the answer using a variety of gestures (in the mobile version) or cursor movements (on the desktop). The answer will always be an unexpected animation of objects and an interface that responds to user action.
As a bonus – an experience of augmented reality directly from the browser (without downloading the app on a smartphone). For example, you can look at the model of the reconstructed Polytech building, or see the history of the construction in detail, or see how King Kong climbs onto the Polytech building. In addition to AR, there are themed masks on Facebook and Instagram. The mask may contain the image of a great scientist or play with the concept of a "curious nose." Selfies with the masks should increase virality.
