Promo page
of the Yandex.Taxi contest

Yandex.Taxi and the Museum of Street Art (St. Petersburg) have organised a competition in order to collect the best design ideas for the Yandex.Taxi cars. We developed a convenient platform for the contest.

The jury has selected top 10 works that have been painted on real taxi cabs. For a whole year, Yandex.Taxi cars cruised around St. Petersburg with the design of the winners of the contest on them.

We proposed several different design concepts but eventually settled on a 3D car model, which could be rotated and viewed from any angle.

We found a balance between the most effective image of the 3D model and good performance, even in not the most powerful browsers.

We made life-like reflections on the floor and prepared for them a map of normals. The picture looks realistic even with all technical limitations.

We created a promo website with a convenient tool for submitting applications for the contest, which allowed the participants to instantly check how their design on the car would look, right in the browser and from any angle.

The use of Blend4web allowed a wide range of street art artists who didn't know the basics of 3D modeling to easily try their creative ideas on the complex shape of the car.
